Gravity retaining walls

Use their own weight to resist the lateral earth pressures. The main forces acting on gravity retaining walls are the vertical forces from the weight of the wall. 

Cantilever retaining walls

Cantilever walls are built using reinforced concrete, with an L-shaped, or inverted T-shaped, foundation. The vertical stress behind the wall is transferred onto the foundation. 

Sheet piling retaining walls

Sheet pile walls are retaining walls constructed to retain earth, water or any other filling materials. 

Anchored Retaining Walls

Consists of anchors, cables, and thin walls. Anchors are installed into the ground to balance the foundation and the load is then supported by the retaining walls, held in place by strong cables connecting the anchors and walls.
